Using emotions to reach deeper human values
For a period of 5 months I supported this team of design researchers in uncovering human values behind the everyday interactions of users. The studio focuses on uncovering emotions in users and using them to scope underlying needs and dilemmas that inspire innovations. Working as a full member of the team I was involved in various research projects where I applied the unique methodology to explore contexts and define problem spaces.
I gained experience with conducting interviews, facilitating workshops and clustering data in a way that evokes creative ideas. Through practice I learned to consciously ‘ladder’ between levels of detail and ambiguity during the analysis phase to get to a sweet spot that is inspiring and concrete. I applied the outcomes in developing concepts and prototypes that focused on creating a behavioral change and worked with techniques originating from design and psychology. Along with these research projects I created many graphic designs and other illustrations to communicate the work to clients and
colleagues.
Designing experiences
with ToerA four month internship I did at the small interaction design studio called TOER.
Work typeInternship

Forget efficiency, design to inspire and amaze
During my period here I have assisted and worked on various projects including building expositions, prototyping products and installations, programming and soldering various electronics and creating visual aids. The iterative approach of Studio Toer meant lots of quick and often paper prototyping which helped me to become more generative and create concepts with a higher degree of freedom and originality. Through the many prototypes that had to be both built and animated I further developed the level of these competencies.
After having worked in this environment where emotion-driven design is key I was able to expand on my own style and take it further towards my current vision. Operating from a real studio has taught me some practical things as well; collaborating and thinking on a professional level and working with a
budget.
Innovating transport at Team FASTDesign work for a student team working on a new
sustainable fuel

Kickstarting sustain-
able heavy transport
Whilst pursuing my bachelor degree I joined student team FAST to support the team with marketing materials and other design needs. The team focuses on the development of a sustainable, energy dense fuel based on formic acid that can be best described as a liquid alternative to the flammable hydrogen. Working in a big multidisciplinary team of 40 students taught me a lot about communication, networking and project structure. Next to providing the team with graphic designs I was also in charge of managing the design for the bus and a built-in museum. Throughout the work I cooperated with various stakeholders and third parties to bring my ideas to
life.
